Who are we?
Sharing our passion for West African and Caribbean cuisine (with a sprinkle of the Med here and there) is what drives us at The Horeb Food Company, Dundee’s newest grillhouse restaurant and takeaway.
We’re a family-run business led by our managing chef Babatope (Chef Babs), who is a man on a mission to transform the food and restaurant sector in Scotland. Babs honed his grillhouse skills back in West Africa as a celebrated guest chef and now brings a truly unique fusion of flavours, ingredients, and textures right to the heart of the city.
And just because we’re a grillhouse doesn’t mean it’s steak, lamb and chicken all the way: there’s plenty of choice on our menu for pescatarians, vegetarians, and vegans too!
And our grillhouse name? Horeb means the Mountain of God, said in the Old Testament to be where Moses was handed the Ten Commandments. It just felt right, says Babs.

Meet Team Horeb
Babatope Aliu (Babs)
Managing Chef
Chef Babs is our main man. He creates the Horeb menus, fusing West African flavours with a taste of the Caribbean. Cooking is his passion, and he’s worked as a successful chef in his native country, Nigeria.
With a background as an entrepreneur and holding a degree in geophysics, he also heads up an energy services business so he knows exactly what it takes to create a thriving enterprise.
Christiana Aliu (Christy)
Director
Christy’s business background is in operations and logistics, and she is also a trained counsellor. Her husband’s food apart, her passion is poetry and she has graduated with a Masters in English literature from the University of Dundee. While still in Nigeria, Christy founded a national charity supporting women.
Babs, Christy and their children are delighted to have made Dundee their home — and only partly because it’s Scotland’s sunniest city!

We’re open six days a week in the heart of the city and look forward to welcoming you to Dundee’s newest grill house.
You can find us on the Murraygate, next to Cafe Nero. We’re open Monday through Friday from 12 noon until 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 11am to 8 p.m. and have tables indoors and outdoors. Our delicious food is perfect for a bite to eat for lunch or an evening meal out in town.
We’re not currently taking bookings and operate on a walk-in basis. If you’re looking for bigger tables or a special occasion, please get in touch to discuss.
